Start at Lake Gaston Coffee, where the pace is slower and the drinks are worth savoring. Then head to Main Street Mercantile, where a thoughtfully assembled collection of goods makes for the kind of shopping that actually feels good. Every item there, they'll tell you, tells a story.

When you're ready to have your mind genuinely bent, walk to the Paranormal & Cryptozoology Museum — described by visitors as "not your normal museum," which may be the understatement of the year. Founded by Stephen Barcelo, the collection includes massive Bigfoot exhibits, cryptid maps, haunted dolls, UFO research, and deep dives into the unexplained. This is the kind of place that becomes the story you tell back at the dock.

Afternoon: Craft Beer & Good Food at Timber Waters

A few blocks away, Timber Waters Brewing Co. is the kind of spot that earns regulars fast. In June and July, the free Summer Concert Series runs every Thursday evening. Live music, food trucks, concessions, and an atmosphere where dancing isn't just allowed — it's expected.
